Resources & Facilities
School Resources
The production side of media has a heavy reliance on technology, and we aim to ensure that students have the best possible introduction to working with this equipment to prepare them for careers in the industry. The School has a full range of industry standard facilities.
Main campus at Perry Barr
Students in the School have exclusive access to our range of on-site media facilities at Perry Barr, which include:
- Television studio.
- Video location filming and editing equipment.
- Photographic lighting spaces and traditional and digital darkrooms.
- Analogue and digital SLR cameras.
- Newsrooms for print and broadcast journalism.
- Broadcast radio studios.
- Audio editing suites and portable audio recorders.
- Production suites for multimedia and print work.
Workstations in these facilities are equipped with industry-appropriate software, and students have access to additional useful technologies, such as news feeds, CD and DVD writers, and web space. The school is supported by a team of highly-experienced, dedicated technicians, who are available to assist students with any problems they might experience in using this equipment.
We are continually upgrading our facilities in order to keep abreast of changing technologies in the media industries, aiming to improve not only our equipment and software, but also the organisation of our spaces. In recent years, we have replaced our television studio and video editing system, expanded our facilities by adding new publication and audio editing suites, and purchased a number of digital cameras and flash-media audio recorders.
The department produces a Student Guide to Good Practice in the use of Media Resources (PDF) to help ensure resources are used for the maximum benefit of all students.
